MEASURE SM AT A GLANCE
What is Measure SM?
$135 MILLION Maximum bond authorization | 55% Approval threshold
What is Measure SM?
Measure SM is a proposed $135 million bond measure for Bellflower Unified School District that would provide funding for improvements to local school facilities.
If approved by at least 55% of voters voting on the measure, Measure SM would authorize the District to issue bonds to fund specific projects identified in the Bond Project List.
The measure focuses on addressing aging school facilities, improving campus safety and accessibility, modernizing classrooms and learning spaces, and supporting facilities for college, career and STEAM education.
What Would Measure SM Fund?
Bond funds could be used for eligible school facility projects, including:
• Repairing and modernizing aging schools and classrooms
• Improving campus safety, security and accessibility
• Upgrading science labs, libraries, makerspaces and other learning facilities
• Improving instructional technology and technology infrastructure
• Supporting college preparation, career training and arts programs
• Upgrading athletic facilities, playgrounds, cafeterias, restrooms and outdoor spaces
The measure's Bond Project List identifies the specific types of facilities, improvements and related costs that may be funded with bond proceeds.
Why Is Measure SM Being Proposed?
The measure states that some District schools and buildings are more than 70 years old and that many facilities need repairs and improvements to meet modern educational standards. It also identifies the need for safe, accessible campuses and updated classrooms, labs and facilities that support modern learning.
Measure SM is designed to provide locally controlled funding for eligible school facility improvements while including accountability requirements for how bond proceeds are spent.
